Birding Across Bhutan

This special tour will take you right from the west to the east of Bhutan covering vegetation from subtropical to glacial. The coverage of a wide variety of vegetation enables you to catch birds of all weather. This tour is meant for avid bird watcher who wants to make most use of their visit to Bhutan, which is home to over 700 bird species. Aside from birds there will be opportunity to also catch mammals like Bengal tiger, Red Panda, Golden Langur and Yaks.

Outline Itinerary

Day1. Paro. Birds you may spot: Ibis bill, Plumbious water redstart, River lapwing, Wagtails.

Day2. Paro to Thimphu. Birds you may spot:  Blood pheasant, Himalayan Monal, Kalij Pheasant, Gross beak, Bull finches, laughing thrush, white capped water redstart, Green-backed Tit, Yellow-breasted Greenfinch.

Day3. Thimphu to Punakha. Birds you may spot: Satyr Tragopan, Large Hawk cuckoo, Eurasian cuckoo and spotted nutcracker.

Day4. Punakha. Birds you may spot: White- bellied Heron, River lapwing, Ibis bill, Bay woodpecker, Pallas’s Fish eagle.

Day5. Punakha to Phubjikha. Birds you may spot:  Blacked necked cranes during winter.

Day6. Phubjikha to Trongsa. Birds you may spot: Yellow-billed blue Magpie, Common Buzzard, Brown Dippers, Himalayan Griffon.

Day7. Trongsa to Tintibi. Birds you may spot: Yellow-rumped or Himalayan Honeyguide.

Day8. Tintibi to Trongsa. Birds you may spot: Great Hornbill.

Day9. Trongsa to Bumthang. Here you will get an opportunity to witness the traditional weavings of woolen fabric (Yetra) at Tsugney village.

Day10. Bumthang to GayZam-chhu Camp. Birds you may spot: Blood Pheasant, Himalayan Monal.

Day11. GayZam-chhu to Yongkola Camp. Birds you may spot: Satyr Tragopan.

Day12. Yongkola. Birds you may spot: Collared Treepie, Rufous necked Hornbill, Slender Scimitar Babbler, White-naped yuhina, Blue fronted Robin.

Day13. Yongkola to Mongar. Birds you may spot: Striated prinia, Whiskered Yuhina, and Laughing Thrush.

Day14. Mongar to Khaling.

Day15. Khaling to Samdrupjongkhar. Birds you may spot: White-Gorgeted Flycatcher, Beautiful-Nuthatch, Wards Trogon and Wreathed Hornbill.

Day16. Samdrup Jongkhar to Guwahati for airport drop.
